Teal and Magenta

You go to the pottery village for the terracotta, everything there is usually covered in red dust, clay, and earth. It’s very brown. But if you wander away from the main workshops and into the back lanes, you find these incredible pockets of colour that have nothing to do with the pottery.
I stopped here because of the texture. The wall is crumbling and the teal paint on the shutters is weather-beaten and peeling, which tells you exactly how many wet seasons this house has stood through. Then you have that bright, aggressive pink bougainvillea pushing into the frame. It captures that specific charm of Vietnam where the architecture is allowed to age and decay, and nature just grows right over the top of it, making it look better than it did when it was new.
